Facial gender affirmation surgery (FGAS), also called facial feminization surgery (FFS), aims to transform masculine features of the face to a more feminine or nonbinary appearance. It is a critical part of an individual’s male-to-female journey and encompasses an array of services:

Consultation
During your one-on-one consultation, you and Dr. Hu will have a thorough discussion, followed by an examination and detailed 2-D and 3-D evaluation. An individualized surgical plan will then be jointly created with your direct input and desires. This treatment plan will involve some, if not all, of the aforementioned procedures. They can be done either simultaneously or in stages. You may benefit from additional procedures including liposuction, buccal fat pad removal, blepharoplasty, and face and neck lifting to help further refine femininity.

Recovery
The recovery process will vary depending on what set of procedures are done. Forehead feminization and bony jawline contouring are frequently performed. For these procedures, bandages or gauze will be placed on your incisions, and a support garment or elastic bandage will be used to avoid swelling after extensive surgery. A small drain may be placed under the skin of the scalp to remove any blood. Ice packs are extremely helpful for the first 48-72 hours after surgery. Generalized facial swelling and bruising will be considerable for the first two weeks. The facial shape will improve dramatically over the ensuing weeks to months, and the ultimate result can be appreciated at 6 months.
