Details

Otoplasty, or “ear pinning,” corrects the appearance of prominent ears by improving the shape, size and proportion of the ear and the position between the ear and your head. Concerns with prominent ears include asymmetrical, protruding and misshapen ears which may be present since birth, develop as you grow or be due to an injury later in life. Otoplasty can be performed on small children and teenagers for permanent results that will last a lifetime.

Consultation

During your one-on-one consultation, Dr. Park will listen to your concerns and develop a fully customized treatment plan to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. We believe in tailoring each surgery to the needs of the patient, and never want you to have more surgery than is necessary for the most natural-looking results.

Procedure

During your otoplasty procedure, Dr. Park will make a series of incisions around the ear to remove skin and cartilage, and reshape the ear. She may have to graft cartilage from a different area of the body to create your desired look and this will be discussed during your consultation. The surgery is performed in a private operating suite or an outpatient surgery center under anesthesia. The entire procedure takes approximately 1-2 hours to complete.

Recovery

After surgery, your ears will be covered in bandages. It is normal to experience swelling around the surgical site, which improves within 1-2 weeks. While your ears are covered in bandages, avoid contact sports, vigorous exercise or any other situation that may manipulate the position of the ears while they heal. Results will be visible a few weeks following surgery with final results emerging a few months after surgery once all swelling subsides. Otoplasty surgery is permanent. Additional minor procedures may be necessary to sculpt the ears to achieve the desired final result.
